On June 10th,2022, China Shipbuilding Trading Company, Ltd. (CSTC) and Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Company, Ltd. (SWS), two subsidiaries of CSSC, delivered to Santoku Senpaku Co., Ltd. (Santoku) a 210,000dwt bulk carrier named "VALIDUS AUSTRALIS" in Shanghai. The ‘Cloud Delivery’ ceremony was attended by Mr. Masashi Taga, Santoku's president, Mr. Wang Yongliang, director of CSSC's ship& offshore department, Mr. Wang Qi, chairman of SWS, Mr. Wu Aijun, vice president of CSTC, and representatives from all parties.
The Osaka-based company, Santoku, is known in the Japanese market as a 'loyal and top-level shipowner' of CSTC/SWS. The company has ordered 9 Capesize bulk carriers in 5 batches from CSTC/SWS since 2010, and the newly delivered ship, “VALIDUS AUSTRALIS”, is the eighth. After cooperating for more than a decade, the two sides have developed strong friendships and mutual trust. During the pandemic lockdown period, the team at CSTC and SWS have adhered to the concept of "consistently overcoming the difficulties of epidemic and actively communicating and seeking consensus," to enable them to overcome the challenges presented by telecommuting and closed-loop management of the shipyard. By leveraging subjective initiative, communicating with the shipowner online adequately, and implementing numerous preparations before delivery, they contributed to an earlier delivery date. In addition, it marks the second new-build vessel delivered by CSTC/SWS following the resumption of work.
This 210,000dwt bulk carrier project is a mature and independent design by SWS, with length of 299.88 meters, width of 50 meters, design draft of 16.1 meters, and service speed of 14.2 knots, which meets the TIER III emission requirements and the HCSR specifications. It is expected that the successful delivery of the “VALIDUS AUSTRALIS” will further consolidate CSSC's leadership position on subdivision vessel construction, as well as deepen the partnership and friendship with Santoku.
