CSSC QBS Delivers First VLCC Ahead of Schedule

QINGDAO, China – November 4, 2025 – China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd. (‘CSTC’) and CSSC Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (‘QBS’) held successfully a naming ceremony for the first two 319,000 DWT ammonia-ready VLCCs ordered by Belgium-based CMB.TECH. The first one, namely “ATREBATES”, is planned to be delivered on November 10, 2025, seven months ahead of the original contractual schedule. Its sister vessel, “EBURONES”, is also scheduled for early delivery in the coming months.

Alexander Saverys, CEO of CMB.TECH, Bruno Angelet, Belgian Ambassador to China, Ou Chuanjie, Chairman of QBS, Zhang Dalei, Director of CSTC’s Europe Dept., the senior executives from classification, banks, and other partners attended this naming ceremony. 

These state-of-the-art VLCCs mark QBS’s strategic entry into the large tanker newbuilding segment and demonstrate CSSC’s capability to build high added value, green vessels efficiently. 

Alexander Saverys highly praised the two vessels and described the decision to collaborate with CSTC & QBS as an obvious success. He noted that the shipyard's construction efficiency and quality control had exceeded expectations, expressing strong confidence in expanding future cooperation.

With the smooth delivery of these high-quality, ammonia-ready VLCCs, CSSC and CMB.TECH have further strengthened the partnership in sustainable shipping and  jointly made remarkable strides in the global maritime industry.
